Chronic Plaque Psoriasis Symptoms
People with chronic plaque psoriasis symptoms usually have patches of red, up-raised, scaly areas on top of the skin that usually itch and burn. These patches are commonly found in the knee areas, elbows, trunk parts, or scalp. The average of nine out of ten people with psoriasis have plaque psoriasis.
The flare-ups can almost last for months or longer if it worsens. The psoriasis either vanishes or goes away for a time and then inevitably returns.
General basic characteristics of the scaly skin of the most typically common type of psoriasis are as follows:
* Plaques: Areas with plaque on the skin are almost always elevated. The psoriasis plaque areas differentiate in size and may range from a small amount to much more at any given time on the skin. The shape of the skin irritation is usually oval but can also be an irregular shape. Even smaller areas may merge with other spots and form a large affected area. The skin in these specific areas, especially when the joints or palms or feet are involved, can split, crack and bleed. There are times where the plaques have an area around them that looks like a halo or ring shape.
Plaque psoriasis that has fissures are splits in the skin. Fissures usually occur where the skin bends like elbows or knees. The skin can bleed and is more susceptible to getting infected.
Sometimes the color of the affected skin is very obvious with a rich, full red color which is often called “salmon-colored.” Even having a blue tint when the psoriasis is on the legs.
